What are dentures, and how are they made?

Millions of Americans have one or more missing teeth, and today’s dentures are an economical way to fill the gaps in your smile. With so many dental treatments available, you may be wondering what dentures are and how they work to replace your teeth. Please keep reading to learn more about it.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are oral appliances designed to replace several or all of your missing teeth. Some dentures are removable, while others are permanently placed in your mouth using dental implants. Depending on your dental situation, your prosthodontist may recommend full, partial, or implant-supported dentures.

Your dentures can be expected to last for approximately seven to ten years with proper care.

How Do Dentures Work?

When your full dentures are correctly made, they will fit snugly in your mouth and stay there with friction and suction. If you have a partial denture, it will clasp to your remaining teeth or be held in place with dental implants.

If you opt for implant-supported dentures, your dentures will be held in place with dental implants. Your Aurora dental office can discuss your options and help you form a treatment plan to suit your needs.
