How are crowns and bridges placed?

Enjoying the full functional and aesthetic benefits that dental crowns and bridges can provide begins with proper, meticulous placement. Here's a brief overview of the process by which each of these solutions is placed in a patient’s mouth:

The process of placing a dental crown

After preparing the tooth by removing damaged portions, your dentist will take impressions of the remaining tooth so that a crown can be custom-made. These impressions are then sent to a dental laboratory, where the crown is custom-crafted. Once the personalized crown is ready (usually a week or two), your dentist securely bonds it to the tooth using dental cement. Once the crown is confirmed to be properly placed, the cement is allowed to dry, and function and aesthetics are restored!

Installing dental bridges

The first step in creating a dental bridge is preparing the adjacent teeth to support the new prosthetic. As with crowns, impressions are taken to aid in custom-crafting a bridge that fits seamlessly into the gap in a patient’s mouth. Once the bridge is ready, it is securely affixed, or “anchored” to the prepared adjacent teeth.
