How long does it take to adjust to wearing dentures?

Today’s dentures are more comfortable and natural looking than ever before, but you can still expect an adjustment period when you get your new set of teeth. It’s perfectly normal to need some time to get used to dentures, so how long does it take to adjust to wearing them? Keep reading to learn more.

Adjusting to Your New Dentures

Although it’s different for every person, most people adjust to their new dentures within 30 days. If you have a partial denture, you may adapt sooner since not all your teeth were replaced.

When you first begin wearing your dentures, you may experience the following difficulties:

  • Excess salivation
  • Soreness
  • Tight facial muscles
  • Difficulty speaking properly
  • Trouble eating

If these difficulties persist, be sure to contact our dental office; we may be able to adjust your dentures to improve your comfort level and make the transition easier for you.
