Crowns and bridges in Aurora, CO, work together to restore missing teeth and complete your smile. Crowns also work alone for various applications.

If you have a dental bridge connected by crowns, you may have questions about care and upkeep. Below, I discuss crowns and bridges and how to best care for them.

About Crowns and Bridges in Aurora, CO

Dental crowns are custom tooth covers created from impressions of your teeth. They are shaped and colored to look like natural teeth.

A dental crown can stabilize a weak tooth after a root canal infection, trauma, or deep-treated decay.

It can also conceal a smile imperfection—a short tooth, discolored tooth, chip, or other. Porcelain veneers are another way to hide flaws.

In tooth replacement, the dental crown replaces the missing tooth by topping a dental implant post. A dental implant is a replacement root that can be restored with a crown. Four or more implants can secure an implant denture.

Dental crowns also anchor artificial teeth to healthy teeth via the dental bridge. A dental bridge is up to two teeth supported by crowns.

Dental Crown and Bridge Upkeep: Tips for Longevity

Dental crowns alone or as part of a dental implant do not require special upkeep. You brush and floss them like natural teeth and continue visiting my office every six months. As with natural teeth, use a soft-bristled toothbrush and spend time on all surfaces. Always use a fresh section of dental floss.

If you have a dental bridge, a team member will discuss a floss threader and a special cleaning brush to prevent debris from accumulating at the gumline. This can cause irritation and even gum disease.

With any prosthetic or restoration, you can contribute to its longevity by practicing excellent oral hygiene and visiting me twice yearly. Also, be mindful of biting directly into sticky foods with your crown, and always wear a mouthguard if you play sports—even if you don’t have prosthetics and restorations!
